Summary

TransformAr is a Horizon 2020 project developing and demonstrating products, services and “Innovation Packages” to launch and accelerate large-scale, transformational adaptation to climate change in vulnerable European regions. Working across six demonstrator territories — including Galicia — the project combines nature-based solutions, technology, innovative financing and governance approaches, developed and tested by a 22-partner, 11-country consortium.

Objectives

  • Communicate Transformational Adaptive Blocks across European regions and communities.
  • Deliver accessible, multi-sector data services addressing adaptation and water-related challenges.
  • Test innovations enabling rapid resilience changes in the demonstrator territories.
  • Accelerate EU investment through bankability demonstration and innovative financing.
  • Consolidate solution catalogues with guidance and documentation of citizen preferences.

General tasks of the project

  • 1Preparing the ground for adaptation (stakeholder engagement, innovation ecosystems)
  • 2Assessing climate risks and vulnerabilities
  • 3Identifying adaptation options (governance frameworks, transformation pathways)
  • 4Implementing adaptation policies and actions (nature-based solutions, behavioural change)
  • 5Monitoring, willingness-to-pay studies and bankability reports
  • 6Assessing and selecting adaptation options; solution catalogues and innovation packages
  • 7Dissemination and networking
  • 8Project management

Assigned specific tasks

  • 1Map the distribution of toxic dinoflagellate cyst species in the Ría de Arousa to assess harmful algal bloom (HAB) risk.
  • 2Study the influence of climatic and physico-chemical factors on dinoflagellate distribution through microscopic analysis of their cysts.
  • 3Study changes in microphytobenthos (MPB) biodiversity in relation to environmental change and pollution.
